Centella asiatica

Project type

Pegaga

Date

October 2020

Pegaga (Centella asiatica L.) had shown the most promising anti-diabetic properties in in vitro and in vivo models. Pegaga is the name used for Pennywort among the Malaysian population, which refers to a group of ground creeping plants and often consumed traditionally as fresh salad. The chemical profiling highlighted the presence of terpenoids groups, such as asiaticoside, asiatic acid, madecassoside and madecassic acid and flavonoids groups. However, a greener and lower cost yet effective method in extracting and enriching these compounds remains challenging.
