Theobroma cacao

Theobroma cacao L., commonly known as the cacao tree, is the plant from which cocoa and chocolate products are derived. While cocoa and chocolate are primarily known for their delicious taste and use in confectionery, they also offer some potential health benefits and have been studied for their medicinal properties including antioxidant properties, cardiovascular health, mood enhancement, brain health, skin protection and cough relief. The pharmacological properties of cocoa are often related to its flavonoid content.
